Blue Clay Country Spa

The Blue Clay Country Spa is a proposal for Kurzeme, in western Latvia, home to the blue clay traditionally used in healing treatments. Designed around that resource, the spa is planned to sit low in its surroundings and keep its impact on the site small. Its program splits into wellness and residential sections.

The roof is formed by repeating and rotating wooden beams into an undulating ruled surface, reinforced by interlaced steel trusses. Inside, pods of rammed earth walls enclose the rooms. Timber would be sourced from the surrounding forests and the roof clad in wood offcuts. The spa is designed to produce its own energy and water.
