Introduction
Voxel proposes to turn a public space in DIFC into a place to gather, with an array of modular, tiered seating that can change its arrangement to fit its surroundings. It would provide shaded seating and a food and beverage area.
Shade
Square fabric sheets would shade the seating and follow the contours of the tiers beneath. The canopies would be colored in the same orange-to-pink gradient as the lit cube seats below.
Food And Drink
The seating would come in five typologies, two of which include food and beverage stalls. The voxels, the cube seats, would be stacked to form a cavity within the tiered seating, accommodating the F&B stalls beneath while the seating rests atop them.
Materiality & Color
Each seat would be a translucent cube of injection-molded fiberglass plastic with LED lights inside. They would be stacked in adaptable arrangements, and their color shifts from orange to pink as the blocks build up in the tiered seating. The lit cubes would also light the space for evening gatherings.
Lightweight Structure
The shading canopies would hang above the tiered seating from a light steel space frame that keeps the area open. Slim steel columns would come down from the space frame through the gaps between the beveled cube seats.
