Meta-Modular

Meta-Modular proposes housing for Dubai that changes with the families who live in it, designed for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment. Its courtyard homes with wind towers are planned so rooms can be added or taken away. Each house can have its own design, which avoids the repetition of traditional precast modular construction.

The system pairs concrete 3D printing with modular construction to reduce work on site. Rooms, called blocks, are composed of wall units, which are made up of customizable modules. The 3D-printed parts use dry assembly, intended to reduce construction waste, and the house is designed to be built with recycled materials.
